2008 Schedule of Events

Thursday, May 15th:

3:00 pm: Schmidt Amusements Carnival Opens Carnival rides with a view of Lake Charlevoix - You can't beat this!


5:30 pm: Festival Kick-Off!!!   $5.00 Event entrance fee.
Featuring the
MOREL CHALLENGE 

6:00 pm: Zany Car Race
A competitive car race bringing out the zaniest in residents and visitors alike! Build your car in advance or at the event. Kits are available at Boyne Country Books, ACE hardware and the Chamber of Commerce. Use the kit to build your car out of fruits or vegetables and decorate with wild (morel) abandon. We race on a pine-wood derby type track. Winner categories include, most Morels used, most creative, goofiest and others.

Schmidt Carnival opens at noon
1 - 6 pm: Craft Show - Veterans' Park

3:30 pm:
Morel Seminar & Morel Soup Tasting

Getting on the bus for the big hunt!4:30 pm: Guided Mushroom Hunt departs (must register in advance)

Children must be 4 years old, no discounts given.
Seats are limited so send application ASAP.

5-7 pm: Morelfest Wine & Dine @ the Beach Haus  Call Chamber 231-582-6222 for more information or reservations.


Downtown - see a selection of off (and on) road vehicles from Total Power Sports including:

8:00 pm: DA YOOPERS Musical Comedy Show
Under the Tent in Veteran's Park *Beer, *Wine and Snacks will be available.

Appropriate for all ages, the worst thing audience will hear from stage is the word

7:30 am:  Morel Breakfast under the tent in Veteran's Park

7:30-9:00 am: 48th annual Boyne Valley Lions' National Mushroom Hunt competition: Registration starts at 7:30, buses leave at 9:00 this is a competitive hunt-90 minutes prizes are awarded in several categories –senior resident, senior non-resident example, $15. registration fee.

12:15-3:15 pm: The

Morel Taste of Boyne

Our Premiere Event 
"This event is the largest concentration of Morel Morsels in the World"  Get your taste buds ready!

This year featuring "Chef Hermann" from TV 9&10's
"Cooking with Chef Hermann" & Hermann's European Cafe

$2.00 admission to tent during 'taste' - tickets sold for food and beverages.

Also occuring during the "Taste"  - Chef’s Challenge, area chefs will be competing for prizes creating dishes using Morel mushrooms, Black Star Farm’s wines or Arbor Beer from Arbor Brewing Company.


Carnival in Veterans' Park Continues
10 am - 6 pm Craft Show   

5th Annual Mushroom Pole
Registration from 11:30am-2:30pm  Bring in your unusual mushroom find for display and prizes. Prizes awarded under the tent (Morelfest headquarters) at 3pm.

Prize categories are:

  • First mushroom on the pole
  • Largest Mushroom
  • Smallest mushroom
  • Best of Show mushroom
  • Best dressed mushroom
  • Longest distance traveled to pick mushrooms


6:30pm - The Morel Mother Lode! A multitude of events including:

  • Not on Brochure Sat. evening 6:30 Tie Dye, $5.00 you will learn to tie dye a shirt, or bring your own item to dye for $1.00

  • 6pm START - Texas Hold-Em & Games of chance - proceeds to benefit Hospice of Northwest Michigan $50 Buy-In $1000. cash prize based on full participation. Side tables available if dropped out of main tournament or just interested in a shorter game - $20. buy in for side table. Anticipated tournament end time of 10pm.
  • Euchre Tournament - register at the information booth
  • Wild Edibles Seminar & Cooking - You'd be amazed at what you can EAT out there!! Demonstrations on cooking wild northern Michigan edibles This is free, local expert will present edible foods from the woods  an area chef will show how to prepare the wild food.
  • "Finish" your own Morel Collecting Wicker basket - partially finished baskets will be available & lesson's provided. You finish it and it becomes your own work of art (and useful collecting basket!) $30.00 charge
  • Morel Prizes
  • Live Music - TWISTED FINSTER starts playing 9pm
  • *Beer, *Wine and Food available - committee members may be frying up morel's 'just like at home'
